Lecture at School of Life Sciences, Jyotivihar on Invest to End TB: Save Lives
On 9th April 2025, the South Asian Institute of Health Promotion (SAIHP) organized an insightful lecture at the School of Life Sciences, Jyoti Vihar. The lecture, titled "Invest to End TB: Save Lives", focused on raising awareness about Tuberculosis (TB) and the urgent need for increased investment in the fight against it.
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs, but can spread to other parts of the body. Despite being curable, TB remains one of the leading causes of death globally, especially in developing countries. Early detection, treatment adherence, and sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure are vital to ending TB and saving lives.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Dasarathi Das, Executive Director of SAIHP, who provided an in-depth look at the global impact of TB, its economic and social burden, and the importance of collective action to combat it. Dr. Das emphasized that increased investment in research, healthcare access, and education is key to eliminating TB in the long run.
Students at the School of Life Sciences were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and participating in meaningful discussions on topics ranging from TB's transmission to prevention strategies. Dr. Das also highlighted the important role young scientists and healthcare professionals play in driving forward TB prevention and treatment efforts.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from a faculty member at the School of Life Sciences, expressing appreciation for Dr. Das's valuable insights.
The lecture successfully raised awareness about TB and inspired students to take an active role in the fight against the disease through research and community outreach.
